As Alara Health Group, we aim to solve our patients’ health problems and improve their quality of life with mastectomy surgery. With our expert team and the latest surgical techniques, we offer solutions tailored to the needs of each patient.

What is Mastectomy?

Mastectomy is the surgical removal of breast tissue. This surgery is usually performed to treat breast cancer or to prevent cancer in high-risk patients. Mastectomy can be performed in various types:

  • Total (Simple) Mastectomy: All breast tissue is removed.
  • Modified Radical Mastectomy: Breast tissue, nipple, axillary lymph nodes and part of the pectoral muscles are removed.
  • Radical Mastectomy: All breast tissue, nipple, axillary lymph nodes and pectoral muscles are removed (rarely used).
  • Partial (Segmental) Mastectomy: Only the cancerous area and some surrounding tissue is removed.

Process Stages

  1. Consultation and Planning: In the first stage, your health condition and the reasons for the surgery are evaluated in a detailed interview with your doctor. The type of mastectomy to be performed will be determined and you will be informed about the surgical process.
  2. Surgical Procedure: Mastectomy is usually performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon removes the breast tissue according to the method determined. The duration of surgery is usually between 2-4 hours.
  3. Recovery Process: The recovery process after surgery varies from person to person. The duration of hospitalization and full recovery depends on the type of surgery and the general health status of the patient.

Advantages

  1. Cancer Treatment: Mastectomy is an effective method of treating breast cancer and ensures that the cancerous tissue is completely removed.

  2. Cancer Prevention: Prophylactic mastectomy in high-risk patients greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer.

  3. Improved Quality of Life: Quality of life improves with postoperative recovery and reduction of symptoms.

Who is it suitable for?

  • Breast Cancer Patients: Suitable for patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and require surgical treatment.

  • Those at High Risk: Prophylactic mastectomy is suitable for people at high risk of breast cancer due to genetic predisposition or family history.

  • Those who cannot benefit from other treatment methods: Mastectomy may be an effective solution for patients who do not get sufficient results with other treatment methods.

  • Those with Good General Health: General health status must be good before surgery.
