What is Stomach Botox (Gastric Botox)?
Gastric Botox is a procedure in which botulinum toxin (Botox) is injected into the stomach muscles to slow stomach movements and reduce the feeling of hunger. This method temporarily stops the contraction of the stomach muscles, delays gastric emptying and provides a feeling of satiety for longer. Gastric Botox is a non-surgical, minimally invasive weight loss method.
Process Stages
- Evaluation and Planning: In the first stage, a detailed interview and health assessment with your doctor will determine whether you are suitable for gastric botox. You will be informed about the risks and benefits of the surgery.
- Preparation: Before the procedure, necessary instructions are given to prepare the stomach. Generally, you may need to fast for a few hours before the procedure.
- Botox Injection: The gastric botox procedure is performed endoscopically. The stomach is accessed with an endoscope device and botulinum toxin is injected into the stomach muscles. The procedure usually takes 15-30 minutes and is performed under sedation so that the patient does not feel any discomfort.
- Recovery Process: Patients are usually discharged the same day after the procedure. There may be side effects such as mild discomfort and nausea, but these conditions pass in a short time.
