In vitro fertilization (IVF) has been successfully applied for many years. IVF is an auxiliary reproductive technique for the treatment of infertility caused by advanced age, infections, blockages in the tubes, low sperm count and poor sperm quality, obesity, metabolic disorders and other factors. IVF treatment involves the combination of male and female reproductive cells in laboratory conditions and planting the fertilized egg into the womb. After successful fertilization, the process is the same as that in a normal pregnancy.
Two different methods are used for IVF treatment. In the classical method, egg cells are expected to be spontaneously fertilized by sperm cells within the environment in which they are placed. In the practice of microinjection, which is the second method, sperm cells are injected directly into the egg cell using special pipettes. The specialist will select the most appropriate option with the patients.
Under 35 years of age and without any disease that can prevent conception and without conception despite having 1 year of unprotected and regular sexual intercourse, the woman can be examined and treated. Women over 35 or with a history of any problem affecting conception should try to get pregnant for 6 months. If pregnancy does not occur, treatment should be started as soon as possible. It is recommended to receive IVF treatment 3 times at most. The success rates are very low after this number of treatments. The chances of success vary depending on different factors. In women under 30, the success rate of IVF is 55-60%, while it is 15-20% for those over 40.
