Transgender Operations

Gender Affirmation and Reassignment Procedures

According to the American Psychological Association, “transgender is an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex to which they were assigned at birth.” This non-conformity may create physiological and psychological problems in the person.

In many countries, transgender individuals may be required or advised to go through the steps of psychiatric evaluation, hormone treatment, intermediate surgeries, legal gender affirmation and gender reassignment surgery, the preference of or demand for which is dependent on the person’s identity and medical needs.

Surgical options for the individual may involve mastectomy, penile-scrotal-vaginal reconstruction, Adam’s apple reduction, facial feminization, jaw and chin reconstruction and many others.
