Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

There may be nonconformities between the breast tissue and the surrounding skin due to weight changes, breastfeeding and the influence of gravity. The bonds keeping the breast tissue in its place may get loose in the course of time. The main problem may be the breast tissue, skin or both.

In breast lift surgery, the sagged breast tissue is reshaped, and the excess skin is removed. The nipple is placed at where it needs to be. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and in hospital operating room settings. It takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Scars that remain are in shapes that vary depending on the degree of the sagging. Regardless of the method applied, scar formation around the nipple is inevitable. Scarring can be minimized, but there is no breast lift surgery that does not leave a scar. The sutures that are used in these operations are absorbable and do not need to be removed after surgery. A sports bra without a strap is worn for a period of 6 weeks, and massage is also recommended. Swelling, nipple numbness and purplish discoloration on the skin may occur in the early postoperative period. These spontaneously disappear after a short time. The patient can go back to work within 3 to 4 days after breast lift surgery. The new, reshaped breasts maintain their form for a long time; however, weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding and gravity may lead to new cases of sagging.
